In a shocking turn of events, Maya Jama, the beloved host of Love Island, and her partner, Ruben Dias, a star defender for Manchester City, have recently experienced a distressing burglary at their luxurious mansion in Cheshire. This high-profile incident occurred while Ruben was engaged in a Champions League match against Galatasaray, and Maya was away filming for Love Island South Africa.
Their stunning home, valued at an impressive £4 million and nestled in the prestigious Golden Triangle area, was targeted by thieves who broke in and made off with valuable possessions, including jewellery, electronics, and clothing.
Upon returning from the match late Wednesday night, Ruben discovered that their home had been ransacked and immediately contacted the police to report the crime. It was a devastating moment for both, especially considering that this was their first home together as a couple, a place they had just moved into before Christmas.
A source close to the couple shared with The Sun, "They are devastated. The house is very special to them, being their first shared space. Although thankfully neither was home during the incident, it’s heartbreaking for them to think that their personal sanctuary has been violated. They loved this house because it’s located on a quiet street, away from the hustle and bustle of traffic."
This burglary is part of a troubling trend, as numerous footballers have seen their homes targeted by burglar gangs while they are away at games. Recently, Ruben's former teammates at Manchester City, including Jack Grealish, Raheem Sterling, and Riyad Mahrez, have also been victims of similar crimes.
In response to the incident, a spokesperson for Cheshire Police confirmed that they received reports of the burglary shortly after 11:10 PM on January 28. Officers arrived to find that unauthorized entry had been gained to the property and several items were missing. Ongoing inquiries are being conducted to investigate this alarming crime.
